Colour hunt

Everyone picks a colour and photographs everything they come across in it. At the end each colour gets its own collage.

In which city?

What is a colour hunt?

A colour hunt is the simplest game we have, and surprisingly the most beautiful. One person creates the hunt and gets a four letter code and a QR code. The others scan it or type the code in, and then each player claims one colour. From that moment red is yours, and nobody else's.

After that you head into the city and photograph everything you come across in your colour. A door, a bike, a coat, a shop sign, a flower between two cobbles. There are no points, no clock and no winner. What does happen is that you start looking differently: once you are hunting red, you barely see anything else for an hour.

You need a phone and nothing more. It works alone and it works in a group, up to a dozen or so colours, and whoever joins later simply picks a colour that is still free. Children can do this before they can read, because there is nothing to get wrong. An hour already gives you plenty, but nothing stops you carrying on all afternoon. The hunt runs until whoever created it taps done. And since no questions and no route are involved, it works in any city in the world, including one that is not on the list here.

At the end every colour gets its own card: all your red photos together in one image, with the names of whoever found them and the city you were in. That card is yours to keep or to share. The photos sit on our server temporarily so everyone in the group can look at them, and are deleted automatically 24 hours after the hunt ends.

Frequently asked questions

Which cities can I play a colour hunt in?
All of them. A colour hunt needs no questions and no route, so it works anywhere in the world. Pick a city from the list, or just tell us where you are.
How long does a colour hunt take?
As long as you like, there is no clock. An hour usually gives you enough photos for a good card. The hunt runs until whoever created it taps done.
Can two players take the same colour?
No, each colour belongs to one player. That is exactly what makes the cards work: every card is the work of one pair of eyes. Whoever joins later picks a colour that is still free.
What happens to our photos?
They sit on our server temporarily, so everyone in the group can look at the cards. 24 hours after the hunt ends they are deleted automatically. We do not keep them and we do not use them for anything.
